Finding a job during the COVID-19 pandemic

Job search during COVID-19 is different

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted us all in some shape or form. It is hard enough to go through a job search, but this pandemic has made it even worse. How to find a job during the COVID-19 pandemic was a question on everyone’s mind. Especially those who lost their jobs because of it. Some bounce back quicker than others, but it’s hard nonetheless. When we first published this article in May 2020, this was very much a hot topic. Now, in March 2023, people have sort of recovered from the pandemic.

The good news

Every cloud has a silver lining, and so did the COVID-19 pandemic. Even though a lot of people lost their jobs due to COVID-19, a lot of companies were hiring!

Luckily, we live in an age where we have everything at our fingertips. This also means we can quickly check who is hiring.

It was pointless to wait for things to calm down and get back to normal. People were looking for a job straight away; nothing was stopping them!

Different job boards regularly post new jobs, so it was imperative to check them daily if you were serious about getting a job. People changed their focus and actually started to look at what is sought after instead of thinking about what they would like. Anytime someone’s in a money crunch, perspective’s got to change. As they say, beggars can’t be choosers.

Think outside of the box.

This COVID-19 situation was something we hadn’t faced before. The coronavirus has kept us away from our loved ones and the traditional business model. For that reason, everyone had to adjust. Everyone had to change their approach to job search and networking. In other words, they had to think outside of their usual box.

A lot of people used social media as a platform and shared their struggles. Yes, we were in lockdown, and yes, it was hard, but it didn’t give us permission to simply give up.

The most obvious platform for this was LinkedIn. We have written about it before; feel free to check articles dedicated to it. If you are jobless, you should continuously be checking it, but if COVID-19 affected your career, you should be on it way more often!

People are very active on that network because they are either working from home or they, unfortunately, lost their jobs due to the coronavirus. Because of this, everyone has more time to post and engage.

Getting ready for that job search!
