Life-work balance in post-pandemic world is an interesting topic, mostly because the way we work has changed. Primiarily, here we’re talking about office-based roles and remote workers. Those are the people whose lives changed drastically. By saying this, we don’t mean other sectors and occupations weren’t affected! Not at all, we’re just saying that people who’ve gone remote have a very different idea of life-work balance in post-pandemic world.
New way of thinking
The pandemic did a lot of damage, but it also brought us something good. People finally took a step back and started to reconsider what they’re doing with their lives. Being in long lockdowns, being separated from their loved ones, and having to turn their lives upside-down made people think twice about their careers.
Surely, people no longer care just about the company/brand, salary or the benefits. Actually, the number one benefit people want since 2020 is flexibility when it comes to place of work. Many would accept lower wages if they can keep working from home.
Why? Because they don’t want to give up the flexibility and comfort of remote work. At the beginning of the pandemic, everyone was concerned how it would look like. Many dreaded bringing work home because it would affect their life-work balance. However, looks like that life-work balance in post-pandemic world is unimaginable without working from home!
What does life-work balance in post-pandemic world look like?
Well, in most case, the balance looks like this:
- no commuting
- no travel expenses
- being more present in the family life
- having the option to take breaks and spend time with the loved ones
- being more comfortable in own workspace
That’s pretty much it! And it does mean a lot to have these things in play. Each of these things bring additional value. For example, no commuting means people can sleep longer. As a result, this probably helps their health and performance at work. Another important thing is being able to spend more time with your loved ones. Imagine this: instead of having coffee with a person from the office; you can have it with your partner!
Surely, we don’t know what the future is going to bring. Some companies have gone full remote while others have some sort of a hybrid model. Whatever happens next, one thing is for sure: the perception of life-work balance in the post-pandemic world has changed workers forever. There’s no going back now. And if you’re with a company that’s deaf to your needs, we’ve got good news for you! There are companies out there that offer more flexibility! All you need to do is spruce up your LinkedIn profile, write a smashing resume and get out there.
