Job search tip 1 – optimize your CV

It goes without saying that you have to write a CV if you want to look for a job. Surely, that’s clear. But, you can’t just write anything. It has to be a CV that will bring you results – job interviews. In order for a CV to bring you results, you need to optimize it. Basically, what you need to do is, you need to make sure that the content of your CV matches the job ad you’re applying to. Out of all job search tips, I’d say this is definitely number one. Make your CV so relevant that the reader instantly thinks they found the perfect candidate.

Job search tip 2 – apply even if you don’t meet all the requirements

When it comes to job requirements, my advice would be to check those that are outlined as essential. If you meet like 70-80% of the expectations, go for it and apply.
First of all, you don’t lose anything if you do. Secondly, maybe they’ll appreciate your enthusiasm and bravery. Thirdly, maybe they’re trying to lower the number of applicants so they listed a bunch of things but only a few really matter.

We’ve written about this before, and this specific post covers the topic at length. Please note that this depends on your situation – you can’t apply for a position of a software developer if you can’t code. Be reasonable and decide for yourself what could work.

When it comes to job search tips, this is the most common one we share with our clients.

Job search tip 3 – keep track of your applications

I know, this one seems the silliest out of all my job search tips, but trust me, it’s a good one! If you are really working hard on getting a new job, it means a lot of applications. And a lot of applications mean you need to memorize them all.

Not only that, but you also need to remember which CV you sent where.

So, to make sure there’s no awkwardness, I’d suggest you keep track of your applications. You can do it on a piece of paper or in a spreadsheet on your computer – whatever works for you!

 

Job search tip 4 – reach out to recruiters

My next tip is to reach out to recruiters on LinkedIn and email if they shared it on the job ad. Don’t forget that their job is to find candidates. So, when a candidate reaches out to them, it’s actually you doing them a favor.

Job search tip 5 – send open applications

This one might seem a bit out there, but when it comes to job search tips, it’s important to keep an open mind. Remember, our goal here is to boost your job search. So, you need to know that you can send open applications to companies!

If you have a company that you like, reach out to recruiters. See if they have something for you. Or find an email address for the HR department and send them a query. It doesn’t cost a thing and it can bring you so much.
