How important is relaxation?

Relaxation is very important - make time for yourself!

How important is relaxation and is it needed? Surely, we have all heard that it is important to take a break. And mind our mental health, as well as physical. Why is that so? Well, firstly, it’s because proper relaxation is essential to keep you running. Secondly, if all you do is work, it will diminish your social life and you’ll get completely consumed by your work.

Relax - take a breakImportance of taking breaks

Even at your job, your manager should be encouraging you to take regular breaks. Why? Well, because short-term breaks will make you more productive, and long-term, they will prevent burnout!

We are constantly bombarded with information and faced with choices – at our jobs and outside of it. We need to constantly choose between something, and make a decision. For the most part, those decisions are simple, but they are decisions nonetheless.

Have you ever noticed that? Even now, you need to decide if you want to continue reading this post. You can’t run away from it.

The issue of options!

In today’s world, we have a lot of options, but that also means a lot of decisions to make. There's plenty of things you can do to relax.

For instance, when you turn on your TV or start Netflix, you have to flip through channels or content and choose what you’ll watch. When you sit in your car, you have several routes available. You need to choose one and go with it. Most of our decisions we make unconsciously because they are automatic. You have to get to work so you choose a route. You are hungry so you get whatever is easiest for breakfast. We can handle these and due to that, we don’t see them as stress triggers.

But some decisions take up a lot of our energy because there are multiple variables we need to take into account. This causes stress, and we are usually stressed at work.

Our brains work way harder while we’re performing tasks at our jobs, especially if we have to multitask, and this is almost a norm in today’s world.

Take a break

Working hard is great, but you also need to relax!

Because of all this, we need to relax our brains and our bodies. This can easily be done by taking a nice, hot shower or a relaxing bubble bath. For those interested in exercise, a stroll in the park, or a visit to the gym might do the trick. Watching an easy-to-digest action-comedy movie or listening to music with your eyes closed are also excellent options that can help you unwind.

It is also important to get enough sleep because sleep deprivation can cause serious long-term harm.

When our batteries are fully charged, when we feel rested, and when we regularly engage in an activity that makes us feel happy, we are performing better. Not only does this mean we are more productive at our jobs, but it also means we will be able to focus more in our private lives. It truly is a win-win situation.

Is your job draining you?

If you feel like you can’t get proper rest, maybe it’s because of your job. Maybe you don’t like it anymore, or it’s causing you stress. Perhaps there’s something deeper going on. Have you thought about changing it?

If your answer is “maybe,” you’re halfway there. Give this idea another thought…take your time and think about it. Relaxation is important, but what if you can’t relax?
